We love having the latest and greatest tech, but it can be a very expensive thing to keep up. So, we’ve learned some tips and tricks along the way to save money and get great deals on tech.
And now, we want to share our tips and tricks with you! So keep reading to learn how to save on your next big tech purchase.
Ebates is a cool app that we started using a couple months ago. When you’re shopping online, use Ebates to get cash back at your favorite stores.
Ebates has a large selection of popular online stores that give cash back if you make a purchase through the app. A few tech-related store options include Amazon, Best Buy, The Source, Lenovo, Dell, and Apple Certified Refurbished (occasionally).
We have seen cash back amounts ranging from a low 1% all the way up to 10%+. So, take advantage of these promos to get a decent amount of cash back, especially on big purchases. Every 3 months, Ebates sends you a cheque with the cash you have accrued… who doesn’t want that?!
Flipp is a Canadian app that we use to view good ol’ fashion flyers and ads. In the digital age, we often forget about flyers, but they are a really good way to hunt for deals.
The cool thing about Flipp is that you can easily look at all the flyers from stores in your area. When you open the app, you can either use the “Find Your Location” feature or add your postal code.
The app will then show you the “hot deals” near you, or you can choose any store locations nearby that are relevant to your purchase (ie. electronics stores). You can peruse flyers from local stores, and go make your purchase as soon as you find a great deal!
*Note: If you aren’t on Twitter frequently, but want alerts when they tweet, you can turn on notifications from a specific account. Just follow these steps:
- Follow the Twitter account you want to track.
- Once you follow, a bell icon will show up at the top of their profile.
- Press that bell icon and choose to receive notifications from that account whenever they tweet.
You can always turn off the notifications by pressing the bell icon again once you’ve found the deal you’re looking for!
Red Flag Deals
We follow Red Flag Deals on Twitter, but they also have a website and other social media pages to follow. On Twitter, RFD is constantly posting great deals (and sometimes pricing errors) for Canadians that we take advantage of when we’re in the market for new tech.
Best Buy Canada has a couple great Twitter accounts to follow if you want to find a good deal with them.
The first account is called BBY Canada Deals. They tweet about all kinds of deals on a variety of products, from laptops to headphones to home appliances.
The other account, BBY Canada Gamers, is great if you are are always on the lookout for deals on games, consoles and gaming accessories.
Game Deals Canada
Game Deals Canada is a Twitter account that posts great sales on popular video games and gaming hardware from Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and more.
If you’re short on time or worried about missing posts, check their weekly roundups for a quick dose of gaming deals. They normally post the weekly roundup sometime between Friday and Sunday.
Amazon has a big selection of tech, and prices are constantly fluctuating so it’s easy enough to get good deals. But, it’s time consuming to individually search for and monitor items everyday if you’re on the lookout for multiple products.
So, our hack is to create an Amazon wishlist with everything you want to buy. This makes price monitoring easy because everything shows up in one big list for easy price tracking without taking a lot of time to search each day. Once a good sale pops up, you can jump on the purchase without wasting time!
Also, we recommend setting up 1-click purchasing to save time, an especially useful tip if an item is very popular and almost sold out. Have you ever had an item in your cart only to get a notice that it is no longer available? That is the absolute worst.
Apple Education Store
If you are a university student or an educator, the Apple Education Store is a good way to save a few dollars. It’s a page on the Apple Store website that sells Macs and iPads at a slight discount (and we mean slight). But, since Apple products rarely (if ever) go on sale, this is definitely better than nothing. Over the years, we have saved hundreds of dollars on the iPad Pro and Macbook Pro with the Apple Ed Store.
Plus, if you are buying a Mac, the updates (more ram, faster processor, more storage, etc) are slightly cheaper on the Ed Store, so the cost feels a bit more reasonable.

If you’re a PC Optimum member, Shoppers Drug Mart often has specials where you get extra points for spending a certain amount. Or, sometimes you can get points back for redeeming a certain amount of points.
Maybe unexpectedly, Shoppers has a decent little selection on electronics like games/gaming hardware, headphones, cameras, etc. So, we like to keep an eye out for their promos in case we can save on tech using our points!
Long Story Short:
We really love having the newest tech, but as we said, we also love saving money. Tech is expensive! So, we hope this list provides you with new ways to save.
